Why adequate protection was not provided, asks Makrana

Mahipal Singh Makrana, the National President of Shri Rajput Karni Sena, has declared that they will not take Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi's body until a encounter takes place. Furthermore, he has voiced concerns about the lack of security despite repeated requests, questioning why adequate protection was not provided.

Gogamedi had formed Shri Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena

Gogamedi had formed Shri Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena after he was expelled from Shri Rajput Karni Sena in 2015 over differences with its founder Lokendra Singh Kalvi.

Formed in 2006, the Sri Rajput Karni Sena, largely made up of Rajput youths, advocates for caste-based reservations for Rajputs. At one point Gogamedi was a close confidante of Kalvi and was appointed as the Rajasthan president of the Shri Rajput Karni Sena. However, political differences between the two forced Gogamedi to form a splinter group.

Gained prominence through their protests against film Padmaavat

The Shri Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena gained prominence through their protests against the 2018 Bollywood film 'Padmaavat,' featuring Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, and Shahid Kapoor. Led by Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi, the group, along with other Rajput factions in Rajasthan, vehemently opposed the film, alleging that it portrayed the Rajput queen Padmavati in a derogatory manner.

The protests escalated to the extent of vandalizing the film sets, and the director, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, faced physical assault at Jaipur's Jaigarh Fort by members of the Shri Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena.

The controversy garnered national attention when a bounty of Rs 10 crore was placed on Deepika Padukone by a member of another Karni Sena faction.

Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi also led protests against the police encounter of gangster Anand Pal Singh. The death of Anand Pal Singh became a focal point for Rajputs in the state, who contended that the gangster intended to surrender but was allegedly shot dead by the police without cause.
