Indian Student at Purdue University Found Dead a Day After Mother's Desperate Plea for Help

Purdue University in Indiana confirmed the tragic demise of Neel Acharya, a diligent Indian student in America pursuing a double major in computer science and data science. The announcement came after he went missing on Sunday, prompting a concerned search.

Tippecanoe County Coroner's Office officials were called around 11.30 am on Sunday to 500 Allison Road in West Lafayette for a possible dead body. Upon arrival, a 'college-aged male' was found deceased outside Maurice J. Zucrow Laboratories on Purdue's campus. Neel Acharya was identified as the deceased student.

Neel was known for his kindness and compassion

Described as a driven and academically talented individual, Neel was enrolled in the John Martinson Honors College. He had aspirations for numerous academic achievements and maintained strong connections with friends, particularly within the Triangle Fraternity. Known for his genuine kindness and unwavering compassion, Neel was recognized as both an achiever and an inclusive individual.

The Dean of Students' Office officially confirmed Acharya's death to Michael Clifton, a university official, who mentioned receiving an email with details matching Neel's description.

Neel's mother had sought assistance on social media

Neel Acharya's mother, Goury Acharya, sought assistance on social media on Monday, sharing that her son had been missing since January 28. The Consulate General of India in Chicago assured support, stating they were in contact with Purdue University authorities and the Acharya family.

Despite ongoing investigations, the exact cause of Neel Acharya's death remains unknown. This tragic incident follows the recent gruesome murder of Vivek Saini, another Indian student in the US, highlighting the somber reality of two student deaths within a short span.
