Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is set to commence his Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra from Manipur today, focusing on critical issues such as unemployment, inflation, and social justice as the party aims to shape the narrative leading up to the Lok Sabha elections.
The Congress clarified a day before the journey that it is an ideological venture rather than an electoral one, targeting what it perceives as a decade of "anyay kaal" (period of injustice) under the Narendra Modi government.
Originally planned to start from Imphal, the yatra will now begin from a private ground in Thoubal district due to conditional approval from the state government, which limited participants and duration at the Palace Grounds in the capital.
Thoubal district administration has also imposed restrictions, capping the duration at one hour and limiting participants to 3,000. The yatra is scheduled to pass through 100 Lok Sabha constituencies across 15 states, with the party anticipating a transformative impact similar to Rahul Gandhi's previous cross-country march.
Yatra aims to address people's concerns: Cong
The Congress emphasizes that the yatra aims to address people's concerns since the government allegedly stifled their voice in Parliament, seeking to reinstate the constitutional principles of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity.
Covering 6,713 km via buses and on foot, the yatra will span 110 districts in 67 days, concluding in Mumbai around March 20 or 21. Despite the party's insistence that this is not an electoral endeavor, its timing is crucial, coinciding with efforts to revitalize the party's image after lackluster results in recent assembly elections.
As the BJP directs attention to the January 22 Ram temple consecration ceremony, the Congress aims to shift the focus to fundamental issues during this yatra.
