Lok Sabha Elections-2024: Will two ladies of Pawar family face each other on Baramati seat in Maharashtra?

There may be a contest between women from the families of Sharad Pawar and Ajit Pawar on Baramati seat in Maharashtra.

Sources said that Ajit Pawar's wife Sunetra Pawar may contest against Sharad Pawar's daughter Supriya Sule.

Baramati, a stronghold long associated with Sharad Pawar's family in Maharashtra, is gearing up for a significant electoral showdown in the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls-2024. The political landscape is abuzz with speculation as Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar hints at the potential entry of his wife, Sunetra, into the electoral race, posing a challenge to his cousin Supriya Sule.

Baramati is stronghold of Sharad Pawar and Supriya Sule

Historically, Baramati has been firmly under the influence of Sharad Pawar and Supriya Sule, the latter having successfully represented the constituency for three consecutive terms since 2009.

Ajit Pawar, signaling the commencement of electoral activities, has expressed the desire to introduce a new face in Baramati against Supriya Sule. He underscores that despite being a newcomer, the candidate will benefit from the support and guidance of experienced individuals.

In an emotional plea to voters, Ajit Pawar advocates for choosing the novice candidate, stressing the importance of voting based on developmental priorities rather than emotional considerations. He points out the noteworthy streak of opposition candidates not losing their deposits in Baramati, a trend he takes pride in.

The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) experienced a split in July of the previous year when Ajit Pawar and eight other MLAs joined the Maharashtra government led by Eknath Shinde. A recent ruling by the Election Commission, recognizing the Ajit Pawar faction as the 'real NCP,' has conferred upon them control over the party name and symbol. This sets the stage for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections and Rajya Sabha seat polls.

This development draws parallels to the Sena Vs Sena scenario, wherein a faction led by Eknath Shinde, aligned with the BJP. It was acknowledged as the 'real Sena.' This situation mirrors Uddhav Thackeray's race to redefine the identity of the party founded by his father, just weeks before crucial elections.
