Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will visit Siachen Glacier, where he will celebrate Holi with the soldiers deployed in the world's highest battlefield. Siachen Glacier is a strategic military post and one of the most challenging terrains in the world. Preparations are in full swing for the Defence Minister's visit.
Rajnath Singh on Saturday said that he will visit Siachen area on March 24 and celebrate Holi with the armed forces personnel deployed there. The festival of colour will be celebrated from March 24-25.
Rajnath Singh posted on X: “Tomorrow, 24th March, I shall be in Siachen, the world’s highest battlefield. Looking forward to celebrate Holi with the Armed Forces personnel deployed there.”
However, this is not the first time that the Defence Minister will celebrate Holi with the soldiers.
During the Siachen visit, Rajnath Singh had told that this is an area where the temperature is minus 40 degrees Celsius even during the day. No one knows when the weather here will turn deadly. Situated in the lap of the Himalayas, Siachen is the highest and most dangerous battlefield in the world. On one side is Pakistan and on the other side is the deceitful China. Apart from Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Nirmala Sitharaman and Prime Minister Narendra Modi also visited Siachen in 2017 after BJP came to center stage.
Siachen Glacier is the highest military area in the world. It is located in the eastern Karakoram mountain range of the Himalayas, where the Line of Control between India and Pakistan ends. Due to its high altitude, the soldiers posted here have to face strong icy winds even on normal days. The temperature here drops to minus 60 degrees Celsius, and landslides and avalanches become common.
Operation Meghdoot was launched in 1984 to defeat the Pakistani army on Siachen Glacier and capture the peak. The Indian Army is under control here since then.
In 2019 Rajnath Singh visited Siachen. During this he interacted with the soldiers. The Union Minister also obtained information about their challenges. He assured the government's commitment to ensure the welfare and safety of the soldiers.
Earlier, the Union Minister had announced to open the glacier for tourists also.
