Ram Navami 2024: Radiant embrace of sunlight illuminates Lord Ram's forehead during 'Surya Tilak' ceremony in Ayodhya

At noon today, the majestic Ram Temple in Ayodhya bore witness to a remarkable event as the forehead of the Ram Lalla idol was graced with a beam of sunlight, known as 'Surya Tilak,' on the auspicious occasion of Ram Navami.

This unique ritual of applying Surya Tilak on Ramlala's forehead lasted for 5 minutes. Today, on Ram Navami, the inaugural Surya Tilak was performed for Ram Lalla following his consecration in the Ayodhya temple. At 12:01 pm, utilizing a technique devised by scientists, the Surya Tilak was gently applied to Ramlala's forehead. As the first sunbeam touched the head of Ramlala, the temple atmosphere was suffused with reverence.

Lord Ram was honored through traditional rituals. Melodious bhajans and auspicious songs resounded throughout. This marks the first Ram Navami celebration following the construction and consecration of the Ram temple in Ayodhya.

As the sunlight brightened up Ram Lalla in Ayodhya, PM Modi chanted ‘Jai Shri Ram’ slogans at a rally in Assam, alongside Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

PM Modi said, “…There is a new atmosphere in the entire country and this birthday of Lord Ram has come after 500 years, when he got the privilege of celebrating his birthday in his own home.”

PM Narendra Modi tweeted, "After my Nalbari rally, I watched the Surya Tilak on Ram Lalla. Like crores of Indians, this is a very emotional moment for me. The grand Ram Navami in Ayodhya is historic. May this Surya Tilak bring energy to our lives and may it inspire our nation to scale new heights of glory."

Ram Navami, this year, holds special significance for Ayodhya and devotees worldwide as it marks the first celebration of Lord Ram’s birth at the newly inaugurated temple. To mark the birth of Ram Lalla, the ceremony of Surya Tilak was performed at 12 pm in the sanctum sanctorum.
