A new era of education: Assam Welcomes Northeast's First AI Teacher Iris, Leaving Students Amazed

Guwahati, Assam: Moving to the world of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Royal Global School in Guwahati brought in a new era of education as they made public the first ever AI teacher ‘Iris’ of the North Eastern region. She was adorned in traditional Mekhela Chador while captivating the students with her knowledge and interactive capabilities.

Iris was equipped with a voice-controlled assistant which enables her to answer student queries and gave them detailed explanations, customized to individual learning needs. During her inaugural session she provided a detailed explanations, examples and references with the query of the students. 

Iris was developed in collaboration with Makerlabs Edu-tech under the Atal Tinkering Lab (ATL) project initiated by the NITI Aayog. The aim was to leverage Iris’s capabilities to personalize learning, accommodate diverse learning styles and make education more engaging for students in the North East region. The school looks to revolutionize traditional teaching methods and empower students with cutting-edge educational tools. 

When a student asked, "What is haemoglobin?" Iris listened attentively and provided a detailed explanation, according to a teacher at the school.

"Iris answered questions swiftly and thoroughly, whether they were from the syllabus or on various other topics, providing examples and references," said a school spokesperson.

Students eagerly engaged with the AI teacher, showing curiosity and enthusiasm for the various activities. They were particularly fascinated by Iris's ability to perform gestures like handshakes, which made the learning experience enjoyable and interactive.

"The children are very excited because the artificially intelligent teacher has answers to their questions," a school teacher said.

"This innovative step marks a significant advancement in the integration of artificial intelligence in education. "The introduction of 'Iris' is a major milestone in enhancing the learning experience and catering to the diverse learning styles of students," she added.
