MP Lok Sabha Election-2024: Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has said that her father, former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, inherited martyrdom rather than wealth from his mother. She expressed that this sentiment is something PM Narendra Modi would not comprehend, countering the Prime Minister's remarks on dynastic politics and inheritance tax.
Last week, Prime Minister Modi stated that Rajiv Gandhi eliminated inheritance tax upon assuming power to prevent the taxation of the wealth he inherited from his mother.
Today, addressing a rally in Morena, Madhya Pradesh, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra remarked, "When Modi-ji stands on the platform and refers to my father as a traitor and claims he altered a law to acquire his inheritance from his mother... but he fails to grasp that my father did not receive any wealth through inheritance; he inherited only the ideals of martyrdom."
Priyanka was addressing the rally in support of the Congress candidate. State President Jitu Patwari and other leaders were also present on this occasion.
'Inflation and unemployment are real'
The Congress General Secretary said, “I have come here not to ask for votes, but to urge. The public should become aware. What is being taught and shown everyday is not the truth. Your life is truth. Truth is what you are living. Inflation and unemployment are real. Recognize this truth. The leaders of the country have become useless. They only talk about religion. Through this they remain in power by garnering votes.”
'Foundation of this country is Satyamev Jayate'
Mrs. Vadra said, “We are all religious. Indira ji used to do puja daily. Rajiv ji has taught us to worship. My mother also came from abroad and learned the traditions here. Hindu religion is based on truth. The foundation of this country is Satyamev Jayate. These people say that Congress will steal the Mangalsutra. Will enter houses with X-rays. Whereas the truth is that my mother's Mangalsutra is a sacrifice for the country. Indira ji had donated the jewellery.”
'If intentions are not right, the policy will also be wrong'
She said that today the Prime Minister has said a new thing that if Congress comes to power and if someone has two buffaloes, then one buffalo will be snatched away. She called it misleading and ridiculous and said that only when the intention is right, the policy will be right. If the intentions are not right, the policy will also be wrong. The policies of the current Modi government are for the billionaires rather than the poor and farmers.
'Recognize those who are trying to fool you'
Accusing Prime Minister Modi of continuously speaking lies and misleading the people, Priyanka said that the public should become aware. Recognize the one who is trying to fool you. After this, vote and use your discretion while voting. Vadra talked about the guarantees of Congress and said that we do what we say. We have done all this in Karnataka, Telangana and Chhattisgarh.
'Youth from Chambal have joined the army'
Before this, while mentioning that a large number of youth from this Chambal region have joined the army, she said that the present government has snatched employment from those joining the army by bringing Agniveer scheme. Under this scheme, the youth will serve in the army for four years and then they will be sent home. By doing this the youth will become unemployed.
Priyanka said that unemployment and inflation are the biggest problems these days, but the PM does not talk about these issues. Modi has also sold the country's Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) to his billionaire friends. Modi is handing over coal mines, airports, power plants, ports and other important institutions to a select few.
Priyanka said that due to demonetization and GST, small and medium businesses in the country have already been hit.
