Reflecting on past elections, in 2014, PM Modi secured victory in the Varanasi Lok Sabha seat with 5,81,222 votes, with Arvind Kejriwal of the Aam Aadmi Party, trailing in second place with 2,92,238 votes. In the subsequent 2019 elections, PM Modi maintained his stronghold, amassing 6,74,664 votes, while Congress candidate Ajay Rai trailed significantly with only 1,52,548 votes.

Apart from Rai, stand-up comedian Shyam Rangeela has also announced his electoral debut from Varanasi against PM Modi. Hailing from Rajasthan, Shyam Rangeela is renowned for his uncanny mimicking of PM Modi.
Rangeela announced his candidature from Varanasi for the Lok Sabha 2024 on social media on Wednesday, May 1.
