Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will remain an MP from Rae Bareli seat in Uttar Pradesh and will resign from Wayanad seat in Kerala.
Priyanka Gandhi has been declared the candidate by the Congress party for the by-election on the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge gave this information.
Kharge informed the media that Rahul Gandhi has won elections from two constituencies. According to the law, he is required to vacate one seat and can continue as an MP for one seat. Today, it has been decided that Rahul Gandhi will retain his MP position for the Rae Bareli seat as it holds significance for his family. with tomorrow being the deadline for this decision.
Kharge said, "Tomorrow (18 June) being the last day, today we have decided that Rahul Gandhi will remain an MP from Rae Bareli seat, because Rae Bareli is already close to his family. Rae Bareli is associated with the Gandhi family. The people there and the party believe that Rahul Gandhi should remain an MP from Rae Bareli seat."
Kharge said further, "The people of Wayanad also want Rahul Gandhi to remain their MP. Rahul Gandhi has received the love of the people of Wayanad. But the law allows Rahul Gandhi to remain an MP from only one seat."
Rahul Gandhi expressed to the media that he feels a deep emotional connection to both Rae Bareli and Wayanad. He mentioned that Priyanka Gandhi will be contesting from the Wayanad constituency.
This time Rahul Gandhi contested from Rae Bareli in addition to Wayanad and he managed to win the elections from both the seats.
I will not let the people of Wayanad feel the absence of Rahul: Priyanka
Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi has said that she will not let the people of Wayanad feel the absence of Rahul Gandhi.
Priyanka Gandhi said, "I will be very happy to represent Wayanad. I will not let the people of Wayanad feel the absence of Rahul Gandhi."
She said, "Rahul Gandhi has said that he will keep coming to Wayanad. I will also work hard to keep everyone happy."
Priyanka Gandhi said, "I have an old relationship with Rae Bareli. For 20 years I have worked for Rae Bareli and Amethi."
While giving information about vacating the Wayanad seat, Rahul Gandhi said that it was very difficult for him to take this decision. Rahul Gandhi announced that Priyanka Gandhi will contest from Wayanad.
With this, Priyanka Gandhi is going to step into electoral politics. Priyanka Gandhi was appointed as the General Secretary of Congress just before the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
Rahul Gandhi was elected as a Lok Sabha MP from Wayanad seat of Kerala for the first time in 2019.
