Weather: Monsoon stalled in Gujarat, delay in its progression towards Madhya Pradesh, check details & IMD's latest prediction


Pre-monsoon conditions persist in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, while the monsoon, which had reached Gujarat on June 11, has stalled and has not advanced. Over the past two days, pre-monsoon rainfall has been reported in 10 districts spanning MP and Rajasthan.


The Meteorological Department has said the monsoon has weakened since June 10-14, leading to a delay in its progression towards Madhya Pradesh. It is anticipated that the monsoon is expected to advance into MP and neighboring states around June 18-19.


Heavy rains in Burhanpur


Meanwhile, pre-monsoon activities have started in some parts of MP. Heavy rains occurred in Burhanpur, the southernmost district of Madhya Pradesh, on Saturday. Pre-monsoon showers are expected in southern districts like Burhanpur, Khandwa, Khargone, Barwani. 


On Saturday, Burhanpur experienced heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds and hail. The downpour brought relief from the intense heat, significantly cooling down the area. The pleasant change in weather brought joy to the residents, prompting them to capture the rainfall in videos and share their happiness on social media.


Meteorologists have reported the presence of two active cyclonic circulation systems. The southern region is experiencing rainy and windy conditions with high wind speeds. A similar weather pattern is evolving in the northwest region, indicating the likelihood of storms, thunder, and rainfall even before the onset of the monsoon.


3 killed in heat wave in Varanasi


On the other hand, the heat wave continues in Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Punjab. 3 people including a female tourist died due to heat in Varanasi. The temperature in Abohar, Punjab was 47.1°C on Saturday and 46°C in Delhi.


According to IMD, the effect of severe heatwave will remain in these states including Bihar and Jharkhand till June 18. At the same time, heat wave will continue till June 17 in MP, UP, Rajasthan, Odisha, Himachal Pradesh, West Bengal.


Red alert for rain in the NE states 


On the other hand, a red alert for rain has been issued in the North-East states (Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Assam, Meghalaya, Sikkim) including West Bengal from today i.e. June 16 to June 19.


There may be 64 to 115 mm rainfall in these states. Also, the wind can blow at a speed of 30-40 km per hour. Lightning is also expected along with thunder.
