Cricket: Will Virat Kohli's absence be felt in Team India; can these players take his place in T20I?

It is impossible to fill the void of Virat Kohli in Team India. But now that he has announced his retirement from the T20 format, the Indian team will have to move on from the 'Kohli era'. Fortunately, there is no shortage of talented players in Team India, including many promising young cricketers who can step up to fill the gap left by Virat Kohli. In this scenario, if we discuss three cricketers in the country who could potentially replace Virat Kohli in the T20 format, they are as follows.

Sanju Samson

Talented cricketer Sanju Samson has the potential and promise to take the place of Kohli. While Samson hasn't been a consistent member of Team India, he has been associated with the Indian team for a considerable period. Kohli is frequently positioned at number 3 in the T20 format, and similarly, Samson has been delivering consistent performances in this role for Rajasthan in the IPL. Therefore, selecting him as Kohli's successor could potentially be a prudent choice.

There are many other benefits of including Sanju Samson in the Indian team. He also provides the option of wicket-keeping along with captaincy for the team. In such a situation, choosing him in place of Kohli seems beneficial for the team in every way.

Shubman Gill

Another contender capable of taking Kohli's place is Shubman Gill. Despite not securing a spot in the primary squad for the T20 World Cup 2024, Gill undeniably possesses the same caliber as Virat Kohli. Among the numerous promising cricketers in the country, Gill is perceived to exhibit shades of Kohli's style. Therefore, following Kohli's exit, Shubman Gill could potentially secure a permanent position at number 3.

Rituraj Gaikwad

The third big name in the special list is CSK star batsman Rituraj Gaikwad. Gaikwad has impressed everyone with his excellent batting in the IPL. However, due to the presence of star cricketers in Team India, he has been ignored till now. But after Kohli's departure, it is expected that he can be included in the team.
