After receiving approval from Governor Thawarchand Gehlot to prosecute Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, the Congress party has announced plans for a statewide protest on Monday. The Karnataka Congress has condemned the Governor's decision as "illegal and politically motivated" in relation to the Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) case.
The Governor has given approval to prosecute the Chief Minister in the case of alleged out-of-turn allotment of 14 sites to CM's wife Parvati BM by MUDA.
The sites were allotted to CM's wife in exchange for the land of Kesare village. Siddaramaiah's wife was given 14 sites in Vijayanagar Layout of Mysore. She had 3.16 acres of land in Kesare village, which was illegally occupied by MUDA.
In response to the Governor's sanction for prosecution, the Congress party has called for peaceful demonstrations across the state.
Congress state president DK Shivakumar has urged party workers to protest in a peaceful manner while remaining vigilant against any anarchic elements that might attempt to incite violence during the demonstrations.
Meanwhile, Congress leader and senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi has been appointed to represent Siddaramaiah in the Karnataka High Court. Singhvi will challenge the Governor's orders, arguing that they are "illegal, politically motivated, and a misuse of the powers of the Raj Bhavan."
A source close to Siddaramaiah, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed that Singhvi was personally chosen by the Chief Minister to defend him in court.
