The four-day grand festival of faith, Chaiti Chhath, is celebrated twice a year: once in the month of Chaitra and again in the month of Kartik. In 2025, Chaiti Chhath Puja will commence on Tuesday, April 1, and conclude on April 4.
Chaiti Chhath, a major festival dedicated to the worship of the Sun, is especially revered in Bihar, Jharkhand, and Uttar Pradesh. Devotees observe this fast for the happiness and long life of their children, as well as for the prosperity and well-being of their families.
Chhathi Maiya, considered the sister of Lord Surya, is worshipped alongside the Sun God during this festival.
The Festival Schedule
The grand festival of Chhath is celebrated twice a year, once during the Shukla Paksha of Kartik and again during the Shukla Paksha of Chaitra. Chaiti Chhath spans four days, beginning with Nahai-Khaai and concluding with the offering of Arghya at sunrise, known as Paran.
In 2025, the Chaiti Chhath festivities will start with Nahai-Khaai on Chaitra Shukla Chaturthi, which falls on April 1 (Tuesday). This day will be marked by rituals performed in Rohini Nakshatra and Ayushman Yoga, where devotees will bathe in the Ganga and consume Arwa rice, gram dal, and pumpkin vegetable.
Chhathi Maiya's Worship
Chhathi Maiya is venerated during Chhath, with Arghya offered to the Sun God. The festival is celebrated with immense devotion and faith, with a strong emphasis on purity.

Significance of Chaiti Chhath
Chaiti Chhath holds special significance as it coincides with the sixth day of Navratri, during which the sixth form of the goddess, Katyayani, is worshipped. On Nahai-Khaai, the Kushmanda form of the goddess is honored, while on Kharna, Goddess Skandamata is worshipped. Thus, devotees observing the Chaiti Chhath fast during Chaitra Navratri receive blessings from both Goddess Durga and Chhath Maiya.
