India is now taking another revolutionary step in the defense sector. The country is working rapidly towards developing indigenous suicide drones (Loitering Munition) with a range of more than 900 km. This drone will not only be able to attack enemy targets with precision, but will also destroy itself after hitting the target, which is why it is also called a "kamikaze drone".
Suicide drones combine the characteristics of a drone and a missile
Loitering munitions, also known as "suicide drones" or "kamikaze drones", are a type of weapon system that combine the characteristics of a drone and a missile. They are designed to loiter or circle a target area, search for a target, and then strike by crashing into it. Unlike traditional missiles, loitering munitions can delay an attack until the optimal moment, potentially minimizing collateral damage.
India will be established as major power in Asia
The suicide drone is a type of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) loaded with explosives. This Loitering Munition being developed by India will be able to attack at a range of more than 900 km, which can establish India as another major power in Asia from a military point of view.
The responsibility of this important project has been assigned to Nagpur-based Solar Industries India Limited, which has already been a pioneer in the manufacture of weapons like the Pinaka Multi Barrel Rocket System. Solar Industries ranked highest with a score of 80.30 in the official memorandum released by CSIR-NAL on June 27, 2025.
Strategic benefits and future prospects
