Bharat Jodo Yatra: What Rahul Said On Inflation And Unemployment

Indore: Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi today accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of spending crores of rupees to tarnish his (Rahul’s) image, saying that the BJP and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh are running the government in a rigid manner and are not ready to listen to the voice of the country.

Gandhi was talking to reporters at Barauli near Indore during his 'Bharat Jodo Yatra' today.

On the issue of inflation and unemployment in the country, he said that at present all the money in the country has been given in the hands of a few people. All industries are dominated by a few people.

Rahul said monopoly is being created in every industrial sphere and growth potential of the ‘smaller medium’ has been decimated. Any small businessman will tell you about the havoc wreaked by GST and demonetisation.

Personal attacks are not harming me: He said BJP made personal attacks on him during the yatra but all this is not causing any harm to him. The more money the BJP is investing in this work, the more he (Gandhi) is getting strengthened. He also said that it makes it clear to him that he is going in the right direction.

Farmers have been abandoned: In this sequence, he alleged that the farmers, who work as the foundation of the country, have been completely abandoned. The situation has worsened due to privatization everywhere. Small and medium scale industries, which have potential for growth, have been destroyed. RSS and BJP are running the country by being 'rigid' or inflexible.

Blatant privatisation is underway: Rahul said fertiliser is unavailable. Blatant privatisation is underway of industries, academic institutions and even infirmaries. Education and healthcare – though certainly not off limits for the private sector – are primarily the government’s responsibility. Managing India is a dynamic activity therefore one must lend a patient ear to the public voice.

When asked whether he would again contest a general election from Amethi, Mr Gandhi said that the answer would come in a year or two.

Focus of Cong would be towards small and medium industries: When asked about the focus of the Congress in the event of forming the government, he said that the focus of the Congress would be towards small and medium industries.

Rahul said that education and health are the main responsibilities of the government. The private sector can work in these if they want, but the government should invest more money in them.

Responding to another question, Gandhi said that the basic objective of his visit is to remind the country of its original nature, culture and DNA. He reiterated that his visit should not be seen from a political point of view.
