Weather News: No Snowfall In Mountains Due To Lack Of Western Disturbance, When Will Plains Experience Severe Cold

New Delhi: Half of the month of December has passed. After a few days, the year will also be over, but till now people of North India have not felt that kind of cold, which used to be common in this month. Meteorologists have also expressed concern about this.

No strong Western Disturbance: According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the upper and lower reaches of the Himalayas have received negligible snowfall so far in December due to the absence of a strong Western Disturbance. The effect of this has been that even after half of December has passed, the effect of cold is less visible in the plains. Plains will experience severe cold after snowfall in Himalayas.

Many peaks of the Himalayas have not yet received snow

Meteorologists say that there should have been at least one to two moderate snowfall by now, but many peaks of the Himalayas have not yet received snow. According to scientists, generally northwest India sees two to three moderate to strong Western Disturbances in November and two to three Western Disturbances in December as well. However, nothing has been observed since November 10 this year, due to which there has been no significant change in the December weather.

Deficit snowfall in Himachal, J&K and Uttarakhand: According to the IMD, Himachal Pradesh is deficient in rain or snowfall by 97 per cent so far. On the other hand, there is 80 percent shortage in Jammu and Kashmir. There has been no rain or snowfall in Uttarakhand as well.

Senior meteorologist RK Jenamani says that this time there has been no snowfall in many areas even in the upper reaches of the Himalayas. This is because no strong Western Disturbance has been active over the region since November.

No forecast of Western Disturbance as of now: Scientists say that due to no forecast, we may have to wait for Christmas or New Year for snowfall. He told, there is no forecast of Western Disturbance as of now. However, this does not mean that there will not be a cold wave.
