Dilemma Of Farmers Of Border Area: Farms In Madhya Pradesh, Homes In Rajasthan

Mandsaur: Their farm is in MP and the house is ten feet away in Rajasthan. Madhya Pradesh government gives compensation or benefits of schemes to farmers who have their farms in MP. But these farmers of border area cannot give the address proof as required by the MP Government as their houses are in Rajasthan. In such a situation, the MP government cannot give the benefit of any scheme because technically they are not farmer of MP.

Not entitled to receive any benefit from Rajasthan

They are also not entitled to receive any benefit from Rajasthan as their farm is not in Rajasthan. So the Rajasthan government also does not consider them eligible for any scheme. This is the story of the farmers of Rajpuria of Pratapgarh district of Rajasthan bordering MP district.

Development works cannot be done

Development works like construction of minor drains cannot be done because half of the place is in Rajasthan and half in Madhya Pradesh. The situation is that when there is flood, drought or other natural calamity, the farmers get no compensation when their hard work goes waste.

There are about 100 farmers in this village. Villagers say they are called farmers of MP, but they neither belong to MP nor to Rajasthan. They are deprived of the benefit under the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana because they don't have a local address of MP.

MP government says on the basis of address they belong to Rajasthan. The Rajasthan government says that the land is in MP, so they cannot do anything. In such a situation, there is no benefit received from any of the two sides.

Can't get water for irrigating field

The most important thing is that there is a problem of obtaining water for irrigation in the field. The farmers told that water from the wells of the house has to be used for watering the fields. Because the permission for tube well and electricity connection is not given due to lack of MP address. The land belongs to MP in revenue records but address proof is not available.'

People have to travel 15 to 20 km to reach their fields

Even the drains, culvert could not be constructed for more than sixty years. The farmers told that there is a big drain between the house and the field of the people here. It remains filled for 4 to 5 months during the rains. Due to this people's contact with their farm is cut off. One has to travel 15 to 20 kilometers to go to the fields.

Farmer got stuck at his brick kiln 10 feet away from house

A farmer Bherulal Prajapat says that during the rains in the year 2020, he got stuck at his brick kiln 10 feet away from the house, for 4 days he did not get food, let alone tea. Here the demand for three culverts on the drain is being raised since 1960. People's representatives make promises at the time of elections but till date they could not build even a single culvert. Because MP's permission is also necessary for this.

During natural calamities where states across the country provide financial assistance to their farmers by giving compensation. But the farmers here never get this help. Many farmers do not have KCC and do not even get compensation in case of crop failure. Fertilizers, seeds which others get from Samitis are a distant dream for them.
