Good news has come out for Indian cricket fans. Making a big announcement, OTT platform Disney Plus Hotstar has decided to show this year's Asia Cup and World Cup for free. Jio Cinema had shown this year's IPL for free.

The platform also got record viewership in IPL due to this decision. In such a situation, Hotstar is also thinking of adopting this method to increase viewership. By doing this, Disney + Hotstar is going to compete directly with Mukesh Ambani's Jio Cinema.

Users will not need subscription

Disney + Hotstar has brought this free plan to increase its viewership in Asia Cup and World Cup. To watch the match, all you have to do is install the Disney Plus Hotstar app. You are not going to need any kind of subscription. About 54 crore users are going to benefit from this decision of the platform.

Asia Cup and World Cup will be held in September- October

Big events have been planned by the ICC this year. The Asia Cup is to be held in the month of September, while the World Cup can be held in October-November. Although the schedule of both the tournaments has not been released yet. In such a situation, Hotstar does not want to miss the opportunity to add new users to its platform. People will be able to watch all the matches for free on Disney Hotstar's app. The company has brought this facility to bring back the subscribers who had left the platform during the IPL.

Jio Cinema got record viewership in IPL

Mukesh Ambani's streaming platform Jio Cinema won the digital rights of IPL last year for a record amount. Everyone felt that Jio Cinema would also show IPL on subscription model like Hotstar. But Jio Cinema showed this year's IPL for free for the purpose of connecting the audience.

The company also got the benefit of this decision and the platform saw record viewership. The Jio Cinema app achieved a record viewership of 3.2 crores in the IPL final, which is the highest viewership record for a live streaming event in the world.

Stiff competition between two companies

Hotstar used to be the biggest OTT platform before Jio Cinema bought the IPL rights. Lakhs of people watch IPL here by taking subscription. But this year Jio Cinema snatched the digital rights of IPL from Hotstar and showed IPL for free. Hotstar suffered a lot due to Jio Cinema and lost many subscribers. Now in order to recover its subscribers and compete with Jio Cinema, Hotstar has decided to show Asia Cup and World Cup for free.
