Chennai: The Madras High Court on Friday refused to grant relief to Bollywood actress and former MP Jaya Prada and two others on their six-month jail sentence.
Jaya Prada and two others were the owners of 'Jaya Prada Cinema Theatre' and had not deposited their dues to the Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) for 18 years.
The Chief Sessions Judge had sentenced him to six months in jail.
The High Court rejected the petition filed against this order. In this, a demand was made to suspend the six-month jail sentence given to Jaya Prada and her two partners.
Judge Justice G Jayachandran said that Jaya Prada and her partners collected ESI contributions from employees but did not deposit them and this was done repeatedly. Somehow this case remained pending for 18 years.
The court said that unless Rs 20 lakh is deposited within 15 days, no bail application will be accepted in this case.
