Raipur: Jain seer Acharya Shri 108 Vidyasagar Ji Maharaj has attained Samadhi as per the inscription at 2.30 am Sunday night. He breathed his last at Chandragiri Teerth in Dongargarh, Chhattisgarh. His last rites will be performed on Sunday.
Half day state mourning declared in Chhattisgarh
There is a wave of mourning across the country due to this news. A large number of his followers gathered at Chandragiri in Dongargarh for the last darshan of Acharya Shri Vidyasagar Maharaj. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also expressed grief over the demise of Acharya Shri Vidyasagar. The Chhattisgarh government has declared half-day state mourning.
Acharyashree was unwell for the last few days. He had completely given up food and water for the last three days. Acharyashree remained in conscious state till his last breath and left his body while chanting mantras.
The Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep grief as Jain seer Acharya Vidyasagar Maharaj attained Samadhi.
Modi said that the demise of Acharya Shri 108 Vidyasagar Ji Maharaj is an irreparable loss for the country.
The Prime Minister also said that Acharya Ji's valuable efforts for spiritual awakening among the people will always be remembered. Throughout his life he remained engaged in poverty alleviation as well as promoting health and education in the society, Modi further added.

Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah has expressed grief over demise of the great saint Param Pujya Acharya Shri 108 Vidyasagar Ji Maharaj, calling it an irreparable loss for the country and society and a personal loss for him.
In a post on X he said that Param Pujya Acharya Shri 108 Vidyasagar Ji Maharaj gave priority only to the welfare of humanity till his last breath.
Union Home Minister said that he considers himself fortunate that he got the company, affection, and blessings of such a wise man. He said that the demise of Acharya Vidyasagar Ji Maharaj, a true devotee of humanity, is a personal loss for him.
Shah added that Acharya Vidyasagar Ji Maharaj remained selflessly committed to his resolve for welfare of the universe and every individual. Vidyasagar Ji Maharaj guided the society as Acharya, Yogi, Thinker, Philosopher and a Social Worker. He was easy-going, simple, and gentle from outside, but he was a very strong seeker from inside.
Amit Shah said that through the works of education, health, and welfare of the poor, Acharya Vidyasagar Ji Maharaj showed how service to humanity and cultural awareness could be done simultaneously. The life of Acharya Vidyasagar Ji Maharaj will continue to show the path of future generations for ages like the pole star. Shri Shah said that he expresses his deepest condolences to all the followers of Acharya Vidyasagar Ji Maharaj.
At the time of Samadhi, revered Munishree Yogsagar Ji Maharaj, Shri Samtasagar Ji Maharaj, Shri Prasadsagar Ji Maharaj along with the Sangha were present with him.
Jain community and devotees of Acharyashree across the country have decided to keep their establishments closed for a day today in his honor. As soon as the information was received, thousands of disciples of Acharyashree have left for Dongargarh.
PM Modi had darshan of Vidyasagar Maharaj in Dongargarh
Last year in November, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had visited the Jain pilgrimage site Chandragiri in Dongargarh, Rajnandgaon, Chhattisgarh and had darshan of Jain saint Vidyasagar Maharaj. After having the darshan of Vidyasagar Maharaj, PM Modi, while sharing this on the internet media, wrote, after receiving the blessings of Acharyashri Vidyasagar ji I am feeling blessed.
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai expressed grief over the demise of Jain monk Acharya Vidyasagar Maharaj. Sai said Acharya Shri Vidyasagar Ji Maharaj, who enriched the country and the world including Chhattisgarh with his dynamic knowledge, will be remembered for ages for his remarkable work, sacrifice and penance for the country and society. I bow down to the feet of Acharya Shri Vidyasagar ji, a bundle of spiritual consciousness.

The samadhi of the revered saint Shiromani Param Pujya Acharya Guruvar Shri 108 Vidyasagar Ji Maharaj, a wealth of spiritual consciousness, is an irreparable loss for the entire world.
Acharya ji’s restrained life and thoughts will always inspire us. Acharya ji passed away on the intervening night of Saturday-Sunday. According to the information received, Acharya ji’s last rites will be performed this afternoon in Dongargarh, Chhattisgarh.
Acharyashree has given about 350 initiations
Acharyashree was born on 10 October 1946 in Sadalga village in Belagavi district of Karnataka state. He took Munidiksha from his Guru Acharyashri Gyansagar Ji Maharaj on 30 June 1968 in Ajmer city of Rajasthan. Seeing his rigorous penance, Acharyashri Gyan Sagar Ji Maharaj had assigned him the post of Acharya.
Acharyashree came to Bundelkhand around 1975. He was so impressed by the devotion and dedication of the Jain community of Bundelkhand that he spent most of his time in Bundelkhand. Acharyashree has given about 350 initiations. His disciples are traveling all over the country spreading Jainism.
