Jairam Ramesh said that the Modi government is giving privileges to the donors and is doing injustice to the Annadatas (farmers). Electoral bonds are a financial means of donating to political parties.

It is like a promissory note which any citizen or company of India can purchase from selected branches of State Bank of India and donate anonymously to any political party of their choice.

Jairam Ramesh also raised the issue of VVPAT (Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail) of the Election Commission.

He said that the Supreme Court should also take cognizance of the fact that the Election Commission is continuously rejecting the demands of political parties to meet on the issue of VVPAT.

He said, “If everything is transparent in the voting process then why is there this insistence?”

Prashant Bhushan had also appeared in the court on behalf of the petitioners in this case.

Prashant Bhushan said, "In this scheme it was not known who bought bonds worth how much rupees and to whom they gave them. The Supreme Court has considered this a violation of the right to information. The amendment that was made in this regard, under which any company can give any amount of money to any political party, has also been canceled by the court.

Bhushan said, "The court said that this is against democracy because it gives an opportunity to big companies to end the level playing field. The Supreme Court has said that whatever money has been deposited under this scheme, the State Bank of India should give its information to the Election Commission and the information should be made available to the common people on its website by the Commission.
