Bhimkund: Enigmatic Pond of Mahabharata Era: Experts Fail to Determine Its Depth, Yet Just Three Drops Can Quench Your Thirst, Is Situated in This Dist of MP

Even today, there are many things around the world that remain a mystery, which have not been revealed yet. It is not that scientists do not try to find out about them, but they do get limited success. Today we are going to tell you about such a mysterious pond in India, whose depth has not been ascertained even by experts till date.

The name of this mysterious pond is Bhim Kund (also known as Neelkund) and it is located in Bajna village, about 70 kilometers away from Chhatarpur district of Madhya Pradesh.

There is a belief about Bhimkund that even serious skin diseases can be cured by taking bath in it. Apart from this, no matter how thirsty you are, just three drops of it can quench your thirst.

The water in Bhimkund is remarkably clear and deep, with a striking indigo color that contrasts beautifully against the red stone walls of the cave that houses it. Visitors can often see fish swimming beneath the surface. The site is also home to a small Shivalinga and is considered holy, attracting pilgrims and tourists alike, especially during festivals like Makar Sankranti.

Bhimkund is a natural water source and a holy place that dates from the era of the Mahabharata. The kund lies in a cave, about 3 metres from the mouth. To the left of the entrance is a small Shivalinga.

Water surged out when Bhim hit the ground with his gada

A story from the Mahabharata links Bhimkund with the Pandavas. Weary under the scorching Sun, Draupadi fainted of thirst. Bhim, the strongest of the five brothers, hit the ground with his gada (mace). Water surged out and the pool came into being.

The roof of the cave has a small opening just above the kund; This is the place Bhim is said to have hit with his gada. It is said that this 40-80 meter wide pond looks exactly like a mac

Another legend has it that the Vedic sage Narada performed the Gandharva Gaanam (celestial song) in praise of Lord Vishnu. Pleased with his devotion, Vishnu emerged from the kund and the water turned blue because of Vishnu’s dark complexion. The depth of this water tank is still unknown and a mystery.

The pool is also known as Neel Kund (blue pool) and Narada Kund (Njaya pool).

Why water of the Kund starts rising automatically

Although this pond looks quite ordinary, its specialty will surprise you. It is said about this Kund that whenever a natural disaster (flood, storm, tsunami) is about to occur in the Asian continent, the water of the Kund starts rising automatically.\

From the local administration to foreign scientists and Discovery Channel, everyone has tried to find out the depth of this mysterious Kund. But everyone has been disappointed. Once foreign scientists sent a camera 200 meters under water to find out the depth of the Kund, but even then the depth could not be found.

It is also said about Bhim Kund that its water is absolutely pure like the Ganges and it never gets spoiled, whereas usually stagnant water starts getting spoiled slowly.

The depth of Bhim Kund remains a topic of exploration, and researchers are still investigating why its water level rises before floods or other disasters occur.
