Delhi: Red alert of heavy rain; schools shut on Aug 1; building collapses in Sabzi Mandi; flights diverted

Heavy rains lashed Delhi-NCR on Wednesday evening and night. During this, a building collapsed in Sabzi Mandi area.  According to media reports, some people are feared to be buried under the building. Apart from this, 10 flights coming to Delhi have been diverted due to heavy rains. At least 10 flights headed to Delhi, including one from Tokyo, were diverted, and vehicles were also stuck on flooded roads in some areas.  Air India, Vistara, Indigo and Spice Jet have issued advisories to divert flights and check boarding status. The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for the next 24 hours. Heavy rains are expected to lash Delhi even on Thursday. UPSC cancels Puja Khedkar's candidature for civil services, check updates

The Union Public Service Commis sion (UPSC) has canceled Puja Khedkar's candidature for civil services and has permanently barred her from appearing in all future examinations and appointments. After examining all the available records, UPSC has found Puja Khedkar guilty of violating the rules of CSE-2022. For this, UPSC reviewed the data of 15 years of more than fifteen thousand recommended candidates from 2009 to 2023. UPSC had also issued a show cause notice to Puja Khedkar. This show cause notice was issued to Puja, who was selected for IAS in 2022, on July 18, 2024 for attempting to appear in the examination more times than the limit prescribed in the examination rules by giving fake identity. Puja had to respond to this show cause notice by July 25, but Puja had asked for time till August 4 to collect the necessary documents. But UPSC gave Pooja time only till July 30. Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has announced a special Raksha Bandhan gift for the Ladli Bahnas. As the festival is approaching, Rs 250 will be transferred to the accounts of Ladli Bahnas on August 1.  Additionally, gas cylinders will be offered to 40 lakh Ladli Behnas with Ujjwala gas connections for just Rs 450. Wayanad Kerala Landslides: Over 80 confirmed dead so far, catastrophic impact across four villages

Late Monday night, heavy rains in Wayanad, Kerala, triggered landslides at four locations. The devastation, occurring between 2 am and 6 am, led to the washing away of four villages: Mundakkai, Chooralmmala, Attamala, and Noolpuzha. The natural disaster obliterated houses, bridges, roads, and vehicles in its wake. Over 400 missing The landslides have resulted in the death of 84 people so far. Additionally, 116 people are hospitalized, and over 400 people are reported missing. Rescue operations are being carried out by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), who are on-site trying to manage the aftermath. India got its second medal in Paris Olympics-2024 on Tuesday. Shooter Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh won bronze in 10 meter pistol mixed event. The pair defeated Korea's team 16-10. More than 40 people have died due to a landslide near Meppadi in Wayanad, Kerala on Tuesday. M.B. Rajesh, a minister in the Kerala government, has said that so far 43 deaths have been confirmed and this number may be higher than this. Media reports said 45 people have died so far. 250 people have been rescued during the rescue operation. MP: New Biodiversity Heritage Site Established at WALMI Campus Near Bhopal, See Details

The Madhya Pradesh government has designated 100 hectares of land near capital Bhopal as a biodiversity heritage site, issuing a gazette notification to formalize this decision. Consequently, no construction can occur in this area without approval from both the National and State Biodiversity Boards. This newly protected area encompasses the lush green hills of Chandanpura and Damkheda villages, situated near the Kaliasot Dam. These picturesque hills are part of the Water and Land Management Institute (WALMI) campus, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Panchayat and Rural Development Department of Madhya Pradesh. 18 coaches of Mumbai-bound Howrah-CSMT Express derail in Jharkhand, 3 passengers die, 20 injured

Three passengers died and about 20 others sustained injuries after about 18 coaches of a train headed for Mumbai derailed in Jharkhand early Tuesday morning. The Mumbai-bound Howrah-CSMT Express met with the accident near Chakradharpur in Jharkhand. The accident occurred between Rajkharsawan and Badabambo stations,  , located about 80 km from Jamshedpur,  under the South Eastern Railway. The train traveling from Howrah to Mumbai derailed at 3:45 am.  According to reports, a goods train had derailed near the tracks and  Howrah-CSMT Express hit the derailed coaches of the goods train. Rescue teams were dispatched to the scene immediately following the notification of the derailment, and a rescue and relief operation is currently underway. . Thiruvananthapuram: Massive landslides have struck hilly areas near Meppadi in Kerala's Wayanad district today, leaving at least a hundred people trapped. At least 24 people have so far confirmed dead in the landslides.  The death toll could increase. The ongoing heavy rainfall is complicating rescue efforts. A one-year-old child of a Nepali family living in Thondernad village was among those killed in the landslide, according to the Wayanad district authorities.  The landslides have destroyed the main bridge in Chooralmala, trapping many people in various locations affected by the landslides.  Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has assured that army assistance will be sought to build a temporary bridge, evacuate people by helicopter, and establish necessary arrangements at the disaster site. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said on the eve of World Tiger Day that unprecedented efforts are currently underway for the conservation of tigers in India and the number of the big cat is increasing every year in the country. In his monthly radio address - Mann Ki Baat on Sunday, PM Modi said that 70 percent of the world's tigers are found in India and this animal has been an integral part of Indian culture and people in villages around forests in the country know how to live in harmony with tigers. In this context, he specially mentioned Ranthambore (Rajasthan), Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve of Maharashtra, the 'Chenchu' tribe living on the Nallamalai Hills in Andhra Pradesh and the 'Tiger Mitra Program' running in Pilibhit. PM Modi said in our country, there are many villages where there is no conflict between humans and tigers.
