Heat wave havoc grips many states ahead of final phase of Lok Sabha elections-2024: Concerns rise over extreme heat
Severe heat in several states has left people in distress. Temperatures have soared above 45 degrees Celsius in numerous cities over the past few days. Official data on the total number of heatwave-related deaths in the country this year is yet to be disclosed. However, on Friday, at least 14 individuals lost their lives in Bihar and four in Odisha due to the effects of "extreme heat". Intense heat has prompted the central and state governments to express concern ahead of the seventh and final phase of voting on June 1. Over the past few days, temperatures exceeding 50 degrees have been reported in numerous districts of Rajasthan. Similarly, record-breaking heat has been observed in the capital Delhi, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Punjab, and Haryana.
